Day One, Thursday, March 10, 2022

Depart for Richmond, Virginia and check in to Fairfield Inn & Suites – Baggage Handling is included.

Enjoy dinner included at Hanover Tavern, a truly unique dining experience where you can expect culinary excellence from scratch-made, delivered with gracious hospitality in a warm, historic setting.

Day Two, Friday, March 11, 2022

Depart for Charleston SC and check in to Hotel Indigo for 2-nights Baggage handling is included.

Enjoy a welcome dinner at Charleston Crab House, family owned and operated for over 27 years, with amazing water views of Wappoo Creek and Wappoo Creek Bridge.

Day Three, Saturday, March 12, 2022

After breakfast at the hotel our day begins with a visit to the stately Magnolia Plantation, the oldest major public garden in America. Dating from 1760, the Magnolia Plantation House is the third structure to grace the Plantation grounds. Take a 45-minute tram tour of the Plantation’s diverse landscapes – lakes, woodlands, marshes, and rivers – while guides describe plantation history and wildlife.

Depart for Charleston, SC and enjoy lunch on own and free time at City Market spanning four blocks and home to more than 300 vibrant entrepreneurs.  Sweet grass basket weavers can be seen in every building, along with local artists, jewelry, tapestry, souvenirs, church dolls, local candies and much more.

We will take a Horse Drawn Carriage Ride through historic Charleston, South Carolina. Rich in over 300 years of history, Charleston is one of the most beautifully preserved historic and architectural treasures in the nation, beautiful gardens, and centuries-old homes grace the narrow streets.

Visit the Edmondston-Alston House – Enjoy wine and magnificent views of the Charleston Harbor!

The festivities begin after boarding “The Palmetto” for a cruise around the harbor while you enjoy refreshments of your choosing. Upon arriving at the barrier island, the boat is beached and you’ll step out onto the sandy shore, where you will indulge in the Low Country Cuisine and be dazzled by the breathtaking views of Charleston’s sunset-silhouetted steeples. Day Four, Sunday, March 13, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning prior to checking out – Baggage handling included.

Depart for Beaufort, South Carolina, a very comfortable and walkable downtown with several unique boutiques, artisan shops and restaurants located here.  Enjoy lunch on own at your leisure and regroup for a Horse Drawn Carriage Ride and learn about Beaufort’s history, see Hollywood movie sets, see gorgeous gardens, ancient churches, and many Civil War era Antebellum homes.

Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Reception from a Victorian Porch overlooking the Beaufort River and an amazing sunset! With a glass of wine, light hors d’oeuvres and an enjoyable southern social.

Day Five, Monday, March 14, 2022

After breakfast at your hotel, depart on your Story River Dolphin Cruise at Hunting Island – While we look for dolphins, your guide will also point out the other wildlife, home to nearly 300 different species of birds, including egrets, herons, terns, bald eagles, roseate spoonbills and pelicans. As we enter this saltwater tidal zone, we are sure to see many of these birds as they feed in the estuary.

Next, meet your GUIDE and depart for the Sea Island Center and enjoy a Low Country Shrimp Boil lunch AKA Frogmore Stew, where we will “Hear the Rest of Story” from a local storyteller and historical interpreter.

Later, depart for a visit to Penn Center, Saint Helena Island, a South Carolina Historical Legacy and An American Cultural Treasure.  Tucked in the heart of South Carolina Sea Islands surrounded by glimmering marshes and nestled beneath the silvery moss-draped limbs of massive live Oaks, is Penn Center, the site of former Penn School, one of the country’s first schools for formerly enslaved individuals.  Penn Center is one of the most significant African American historical and cultural institutions in existence today. Located on St. Helena Island, one of the most beautiful and historically distinct of the South Carolina Sea Islands, and at the heart of the Gullah culture.

Continue with “Journey from Slavery to Freedom” catching the spirit of island life and its unique history and heritage.  VISIT THE PRAISE HOUSE, PAT CONROY GRAVE, and SLAVE CEMETARY.

Next, we will visit the Shrimp Docks, where your shrimp was harvested for our Low Country Boil today!  Owned by a local shrimper, see how they catch from the sea with their nets, boats, and docks. Get a close-up experience of low country life and the history of shrimping on the island. Visit the docks and learn the history, heritage, and traditions of the commercial shrimping in the low country. See the boats and docks where Forrest Gump was depicted.

Return to your hotel and enjoy dinner on own along Beaufort’s Front Porch.  Stroll along the River or sit on the Porch swings located along the promenade.                                                                     Meals:  B, L

Day Six, Tuesday, March 15, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before checking out – Baggage handling included.

Our first stop will be at the Kazoo Factory – during our tour you will learn all about how the kazoo was invented and how it has come to be America’s most beloved musical instrument

Next, depart to Tybee Island, Georgia where you will enjoy lunch included at The Crab Shack, not just a restaurant, it is a destination! With picturesque views of Chimney Creek and some truly amazing food!

After lunch we are off to visit the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum, one of seven surviving colonial era lighthouse towers, though highly modified in the mid-1800s.

Check in to the River Street Inn, one of the most unique, charming, and historic boutique hotels in Savannah, Georgia Baggage handling included.

Day Eight, Thursday, March 17, 2022

Enjoy a buffet breakfast at your lovely resort before we depart on a Tour of Jekyll Island – take a tram ride through the island’s 240-acre Jekyll Island Club National Historic Landmark District, getting a glimpse of the past, viewing historic Victorian cottages that accommodated the Clubs elite members.

Lunch on your own, then we take you to explore the Georgia State Sea Turtle Center, an educational center devoted to the study, care & rehabilitation of sea turtles & their environment.

Jekyll Island has plenty to explore. Nature lovers and photo buffs find rare birds, sea turtle sanctuaries, and the remote beauty of Driftwood Beach. And foodies find new favorites among the local seafood, imported wines, and craft spirits. Our beautiful, undeveloped island is the perfect place to disconnect and explore. There is no shortage of outdoor activities from refreshing pools to a network of meandering bike trails to our croquet lawn in front of our iconic Clubhouse—a paradise to experience among striking natural beauty!

Day Nine, Friday, March 18, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel prior to checking out.  Baggage Handling Included.

Then we depart for St. Simon Island where you will meet our guide for a tour of the island.

  • Visit Fort Frederica, a National Monument, see the ruins of the fortifications, barracks, and homes. A museum, film, dioramas, tours, and demonstrations bring the settlement vividly back to life. Tour Christ Church, this beautiful church with its magnificent stained-glass windows is one of St. Simons’ most treasured landmarks.
  • Visit St. Simon’s Lighthouse and the Museum of Coastal History, climb the 104-foot lighthouse and visit the beautifully restored 1872 lighthouse keeper’s home.

Enjoy lunch on own and free time to stroll & shop downtown St. Simon’s Island before departing for Florence, South Carolina, located in the center of the Pecan Trail so let’s dig in!

  • Stop at Young Plantations Pecans Store for some Tasty Southern Traditions.

Day Ten, Saturday, March 19, 2022

Then visit The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden in Bishopville, SC before we hit the highway traveling north.

You will enjoy stopping along the way for dinner included at Madigan’s Waterfront, Historic Occoquan, VA. Menu TBD. A local historic restaurant, featuring waterfront dining with seafood and steak.

Day Eleven, Sunday, March 20, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out and departing for the NEW National United States Army Museum. The Museum is the first comprehensive and truly national museum to capture, display and interpret over 240 years of Army history through the eyes of the Soldiers. Do not miss seeing the film, “Of Noble Deeds” in their immersive high-tech theatre featuring a 300-degree screen.
