En route to Coastal Virginia, stop for dinner at the Island House Restaurant in scenic Wachapreague, Virginia on the picturesque Eastern Shore. Following an evening arrival, check-in at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel.
Day 2: Friday, August 21, 2020
Following breakfast, join your tour guide on the motor coach and depart for a riding tour of Virginia Beach, where guests will enjoy beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay as they learn about the history of the area and get the pulse on Virginia’s largest city. Next enjoy lunch (included) at a local restaurant. Spend the afternoon on a Dolphin Watching Boat Cruise, where you will experience close-up observations of our marine environment and its inhabitants as they glide through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy a relaxing one-and-a-half-hour journey as you keep watch for Virginia’s most charismatic marine mammal, the bottlenose dolphin. After a brief stop at the hotel, it’s on to the main event, the Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival. Spend a summer evening at the beautiful Town Point Park on the downtown waterfront, where you will enjoy the legendary sounds of smooth jazz and R & B recording artists. Dinner that evening will be on your own, and food and drink are available for purchase. A festival marketplace includes crafts, retail items and more.
Day 3: Saturday, August 22, 2020
After breakfast at your hotel, meet your tour guide and depart for a riding tour of Norfolk to learn about the port city’s colorful 330-year history as you ride through the lovely historic district and restored areas. Then board the magnificent Spirit of Norfolk for a two-hour luncheon cruise. Feast on a sumptuous buffet and enjoy the informative narration as you cruise through the Hampton Roads Harbor, viewing many fascinating sights along the waterfront.
Next visit Nauticus, a nautical museum, where guests will learn about the power of the sea, experience ship handling first-hand and pet a shark. Visit the museum and then enjoy a self-guided tour of the Battleship Wisconsin—the largest battleship that served in WWII, the Korean War and the Persian Gulf War. Refresh at the hotel, and then it’s on to the Jazz Festival for a second night of chilling to the sounds of cool jazz. Dinner will be on your own at the Jazz Festival or nearby Waterside District.
Day 4: Sunday, August 23, 2020
Following breakfast and check out from the hotel, depart for Colonial Williamsburg, with a half-day admission ticket providing entry into the many exhibition buildings, including the Capitol and the Governor’s Palace. Tour historic homes, public buildings and 18th century craft shops where costumed hosts recreate the sights and sounds of America 200 years ago.
Enjoy lunch on your own in Merchant’s Square, a quaint area of shops and restaurants in the heart of the colonial district. Then, board the motor coach en route to Richmond, where you will head down to the banks of the James River to view Historic Tredegar, home of Richmond National Battlefield Park Visitor Center. After exploring significant Civil War Sites, depart for your overnight in Richmond, VA.
Day 5: Monday, August 24, 2020
Start the day with a delicious breakfast buffet before departing for Home.
