Day One, Tuesday, September 28, 2021 – Patsy Cline Hometown Tour

Arrive in Winchester, VA and meet our Patsy Cline GUIDE. Begin a tour of Patsy Cline’s hometown. – She began her radio career at Winchester Radio Station WINC in 1946 at age 14.  We’ll see her home, Radio Station WINC, and pay a visit to her gravesite.  Many seniors in the area still recall when Patsy played at area clubs in her early career.

Check in to The George Washington A Wyndham Grand Hotel. Baggage handling included.

Enjoy dinner at the hotel, with Patsy Cline (actor/impersonator) to entertain us!                 Meals: D

Day Two, Wednesday, September 29, 2021- Skyline Drive and Monticello

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning prior to checking out. Baggage handling included.

Depart for Skyline Drive, not just a road through the park; it is a way to experience it. You will pass rock cliffs, and vistas, and probably deer and other wildlife, drive through tunnels of trees, past wildflowers, and ferns. The 35-miles-per-hour speed limit allows you the opportunity to truly enjoy the ride.

Enjoy lunch included at Historic Michie Tavern, one of the oldest homesteads remaining in Virginia.

Next, arrive at Monticello the mountaintop home of Thomas Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson named his home Monticello, meaning Little Mountain and used the Italian pronunciation of Monticello (mon-ti-chel-oh). See Thomas Jefferson’s World, in a 14-minute introductory film that dramatically presents Jefferson’s ideals and accomplishments and illustrates Monticello’s central importance to his life and work.

Check in to Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Charlottesville Downtown. Baggage handling included.

Day Three, Thursday, September 30, 2021 – Poplar Forest, the D-Day Memorial and Live Blue Grass

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning prior to checking out. Baggage handling included.

Our day begins with a tour at Poplar Forest, Jefferson’s personal retreat near Lynchburg. Jefferson designed and built a unique octagonal house here and called it “the best dwelling house in the state . . .

Next, we’ll visit the National D-Day Memorial, located in Bedford, VA, a memorial to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of the Allied Armed Forces who landed in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944.

Depart for a box lunch picnic, driving along portions of the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway providing stunning scenery and up-close looks of the surrounding mountains.

Arrive at the Floyd Country Store to a unique selection of merchandise and clothing.

Check in to the Hotel Floyd, where every room is down home welcoming. Baggage handling is included.

Day Four, Friday, October 1, 2021 – Blue Grass Parkway Winery Tour and Blue Ridge Music Center

Depart for a tour & tasting at Chateau Morrisette Winery, located in a spectacular mountain setting. The Morrisette family is proud to be both a grower and buyer of Virginia fruit. Because of their extensive selection of varieties and blends, they are the largest purchaser of Virginia grapes.

Enjoy lunch included at Chateau Morrisette followed by a photo opportunity at Mabry Mill, the most photographed stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Continue along the magnificent Blue Ridge Parkway for Mount Airy, NC.

Stop at the Blue Ridge Music Center and tour the world class exhibition that tells the story of how, in earlier days of our Nation, the mixing of European and African musical cultures and ideas in the Appalachian Mountains and Valley of Virginia created new sounds that have profoundly influenced the development of American Popular Music.

Day Five, Saturday, October 2, 2021- Mayberry USA, Blowing Rock and the Historic Green Park Inn

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning prior to checking out. Baggage handling included.

Meet our GUIDE for a tour of Mount Airy, NC (Mayberry). Visit the Andy Griffith Museum, home of the largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia, with hundreds of items from the life and career of Andy Griffith in movies, television, and music. Drive by the Mayberry Jailhouse. Bring your cameras for a stop in downtown Mayberry. Floyd’s Barbershop is still downtown.

Enjoy lunch included at Snappy Lunch, a local landmark diner serving lunch in a no-nonsense setting.

Depart with GUIDE and drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopping along the way at designated pull offs. We’ll stop for a photo opportunity at Blowing Rock, knows as “The Crown of the Blue Ridge”.

Day Six, Sunday, October 3, 2021- Grandfather Mountain, an Orchard Hayride and Picnic Lunch

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning then depart along the Blue Ridge Parkway with our GUIDE.

Arrive at Grandfather Mountain, the highest peak along the eastern Blue Ridge. See beautiful mountain scenery and walk a Mile-High Swinging Bridge. Visit the Nature Museum to experience exhibits about the natural history of the region; the theater shows nature movies made on the Mountain.

Next, visit the Orchard at Altapass. Enjoy the Appalachian culture, music, and fun! We’re off to see the orchard, enjoy a storytelling hayride, clogging lessons with mountain music and a picnic lunch.

Return to your hotel to refresh before departing for dinner at local restaurant.                    Meals: B, L, D

Day Seven, Monday, October 4, 2021- Lake Lure Luncheon and Boat Ride

Depart and Experience America’s favorite drive through Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping off at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center in Asheville, featuring an award-winning film and exhibits which highlight the natural and cultural heritage, economic traditions, and recreational opportunities found in Western North Carolina and along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

  • See the Movie: The Blue Ridge Parkway—America’s Favorite Journey, a 24-minute film shown in high definition surround sound, uses breathtaking aerial photography and the story of a father-daughter motorcycle trip to introduce visitors to the natural and cultural heritage of the mountains and history of the construction of the Parkway. Features craft artisans and traditional musicians from the region.

Next, stop at the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Nestled among the pines and dogwoods of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Folk Art Center is the Guild’s flagship facility. The Center showcases the finest in traditional and contemporary craft of the Southern Appalachians.

Depart for lunch included at Lake Lure Inn, Lake Lure, NC. The Veranda Restaurant exemplifies a true fine dining experience while taking in the breathtaking views of the mountains on the Veranda Terrace. Cool breezes, lakeside views, and the finest foods are just a few of the specialties offered by the Inn.

Then, come aboard for a scenic trip around the Lake Lure. Dock and disembark for free time and Dinner on Own, on the quaint main street in Hendersonville. Don’t miss the Mast Hardware store! The Mast General Store was built in 1882 and opened in 1883. The site is on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the finest remaining examples of an old country general store.

Day Eight, Tuesday, October 5, 2021 – Biltmore and Bluegrass

Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel this morning before boarding our motor coach and departing for Biltmore Estate. Completed in 1895, George Vanderbilt’s 250-room French château is a real-life wonder. Enjoy a self-guided visit of Biltmore House that unveils a fresh look at how people lived and worked in America’s largest home. Also, explore the acres of beautiful gardens and grounds, designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, during your visit.

Enjoy lunch included at the Deerpark Restaurant. Next, we will visit Antler’s Hill’s Village and Winery. Discover the new village that connects the estate’s present and past, providing a relaxing place for dining, shopping, historical exhibits, and new ways to experience Biltmore’s hospitality.

Depart for our hotel to refresh before enjoying an evening of entertainment and dinner. Experience a toe tapping evening at the Blue Ridge Mountain Opry Dinner Show.  Taste some of the finest Southern Style Barbeque.                                                                                                                                                           Meals: B, L, D

Day Nine, Wednesday, October 6, 2021- Asheville Trolley Tour

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel prior to checking out.  Baggage Handling Included.

There is no better way to DISCOVER and EXPLORE Asheville!  Board one of Gray Line’s nostalgic trolleys for a fully narrated tour, highlighting the history, homes, hangouts and hot spots of this “city of surprises.” Enjoy Lunch on Own and Free Time to Shop in Downtown Asheville.

After our trolley tour, we depart for Staunton, VA. for our last overnight stay at Tru by Hilton. Baggage Handling is not available at this hotel, we recommend a carry-on or luggage with wheels. Dinner tonight, included at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.                                                                                           Meals: B, D

Day Ten, Thursday, October 7, 2021 – Woodrow Wilson Home

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before checking out. Today we visit The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library & Museum. Take a guided tour of Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace, the Presbyterian Manse, the home provided by the church for the Reverend Joseph Ruggles Wilson and his family. Step back in time to 1856 when Wilson was born and learn about his family, upbringing, and the lifestyle of the period. The museum also features the President’s original 1919 Pierce-Arrow limousine and a recreated World War I trench complete with lights and sound. Behind the Manse enjoy a stroll through the gardens.

RESERVATIONS:  To be FAIR and IMPARTIAL seat assignments will be taken at the time of booking your reservation.  Deposit of $100 per person. Final payment is due 60 days prior to departure.

CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations within 60 days from departure will be subject to a $100 fee per person, plus cost for tickets, meals, hotels and other non-recoverable expenses.
