Step back in time with a look at Yuletide at Winterthur (pronounced “winter-tour”), a celebration that showcases Henry Francis du Pont’s home in seasonal splendor. Regarded as one of America’s most beautiful historic homes and mansions, on par with Biltmore Estate, Monticello, and Hearst Castle, visitors marvel at du Pont’s elegantly furnished 175-room former home. Explore treasure of Christmas past with sparkling holiday display depicting holiday traditions from the 1800s to the early 20th century
Next, check in to DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Downtown Wilmington. Baggage handling included.
This evening you will enjoy dinner at Buckley’s Tavern, with American comfort food served in a Colonial dining room of an 1800s home that is in the heart of historic Centreville, Delaware.
Day Two, Thursday, December 2, 2021

This morning we depart for the world-famous Nemours Estate, beautifully decorated for the holidays with antiques from its collection, elegant trees, garlands, and sprays, hand-painted ornaments, a manger scene, and original toys from the du Pont estate. Yuletide at Nemours Mansion will delight you with the grand traditions of the past and visions of holidays of old.
Depart for our next visit at the Hagley Museum, to include lunch. Located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine in Wilmington, Delaware, Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E.I. du Pont in 1802. This example of early American industry includes restored mills, a workers’ community, and the ancestral home and gardens of the du Pont family.

Tonight, our group will enjoy a Christmas dinner included at Brandywine Prime Restaurant, a charming, upscale spot for traditional American cuisine such as steaks, crab cakes & scallops.

From towering trees that touch the sky to acres of twinkling light, A Longwood Christmas makes your holiday oh so merry and bright. What a beautiful way to end our day in a winter wonderland, before returning to our hotel for the night.

Today we celebrate more of the holiday at Brandywine River Museum of Art, explore the art and the landscape that inspired three generations of Wyeths and other renowned artists.
- See the Brandywine Railroad—display with trains running on nearly 2,000 feet of track—and thousands of handcrafted and whimsical Critter ornaments decorating the towering trees in the Museum’s three-story atrium and available for sale in the Museum Shop.
Next, you will truly enjoy a farewell High Tea Luncheon at Hotel duPont before departing for home.
