By the time plans for the house were underway in 1797, the town had passed through Swedish, Dutch, and British colonial control, and it was now the capital of the state of Delaware.

Lunch today included at Jessop’s Tavern, in a circa-1724 building with colonial fare features servers in period costumes, a memorable experience while serving history in Olde City New Castle

Head for Nemours Estate:

A soaring memorial bell tower greets your arrival at Nemours Mansion, a 102-room masterpiece of Gilded Age inspired by Versailles’ , graced with dramatic views of gilded statues and sparkling fountains, 200-acres of formal French gardens, and a Chauffeur’s Garage housing vintage automobiles.

Tonight, dine at the 18th century Columbus Inn, before you retire to the comfort of your hotel.
