Description

Day One – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1 2023

A harvest bountiful getaway to check out the fall foliage and the birthplace of the cultivated cranberry – Plimoth Plantation and a Thanksgiving Feast. Welcome to one of the country’s first settlements, America’s hometown of PLYMOUTH – Plimoth Plantation changing its name to “Plimoth Patuxet,” in honor of Wampanoag name for region.  The new name will drop the word “plantation” to better represent the fact that the site includes historical reenactments of both the 17th-century English colony and the Wampanoag tribe.

Meet your LOCAL GUIDE then time for lunch on your own on the waterfront.

Today you will rediscover the earliest beginnings of the country.  Picture stops will be made at Plymouth ROCK, the traditional site of disembarkation of the Pilgrims in 1620 and at the FOREFATHER’S MONUMENT, the largest, solid granite monument in the United States.  She stands facing the harbor, welcoming those who come by water.

Admission is included to board the MAYFLOWER II, a reproduction of the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World.  Learn about the 1620 voyage, the perils of maritime travel, and the tools of the 17th century navigation.

Check into the HAMPTON INN BUZZARDS BAY on the CAPE COD CANAL for a one-night stay followed by dinner.

DINNER at the Historic Dan’l Webster Inn in SANDWICH – the oldest town on CAPE COD.

Day Two – MONDAY, OCTOBER 2 2023

EXTENDED CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST is included this morning at the hotel.

Check out and depart your hotel.  Travel a short distance to WAREHAM.

Today’s highlight is a CRANBERRY BOG Tour by A.D. Makepeace, the world’s largest cranberry grower.  Your guide will show you examples of an existing bog, currently in production and will discuss the stages of the cranberry growing process.  Learn from the expert cranberry growers about farming and harvesting this fruit named “craneberry” by the Pilgrims.

Admission is included to visit PLIMOTH PATUXET, the first permanent European settlement in Southern New England.  It is the site of a living museum dedicated to recreating 17th century life ways in the New World with the Wampanoag’s.  Step back in time as costumed interpreters portray residents of the colony. TURKEY LUNCHEON BUFFET is included at Patuxet.

Depart for home.
