Day 2 Tuesday, August 15 Pittsburgh City Tour
Start with Breakfast at your hotel before we begin today’s Pittsburgh City Tour adventure, you will take to the streets of one of America’s favorite travel destinations, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! A stop at the Duquesne Incline offers magnificent views of the “Steel City” while riding on one of the few remaining cable car style inclines in the country. Then in the Strip District, you will visit the Heinz History Center for an in-depth look at the history and heritage of Western Pennsylvania. Our tour ends and we board the American Countess to embark on your 7-night cruise.

Day 3 Wednesday, August 16 Wheeling, WV
By the early 1880s, trade along the Ohio River made Wheeling a popular frontier town, largely due to trade along the Ohio River in conjunction with the B&O Railroad and National Road – the nation’s first roadway and a most important avenue of commerce. In the late nineteenth century, the town served as a prime industrial center for the state with thriving factory business in iron, steel, glass and tobacco. First-time visitors to the Friendly City will find plenty of history to explore in the area. Walk across the 150-year-old Wheeling Suspension Bridge and gaze at the graceful waters of the Ohio River or better yet take a walk through Victorian Old Town and visit breathtaking homes from the stylish Victorian Era.
Day 4 Thursday, August 17 Marietta, OH
Known as the “Riverboat Town,” Marietta is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers and is the oldest city in the state of Ohio. Because of its location along the river, Marietta grew quickly becoming a major trading center in the Northwest Territory. Since then, many historical sites have been beautifully preserved within Marietta, reminding visitors that America’s westward expansion began in this small but mighty, riverboat town.
Day 5 Friday, August 18 Huntington, WV
Huntington is a vibrant, energetic city that has managed to keep their heritage alive, while still keeping up with the progressions of modern culture. The city is part of the largest inland port in the United States, where West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky meet. Steamboats have always been a huge aspect of Huntington’s history, as a major port for lumber, coal, and fuel during the railroad extension. Today, Huntington welcomes all visitors with open arms and wide smiles, and invites all to explore their unique shops, restaurants, museums, and historical buildings!
Day 6 Saturday, August 19 Augusta, KY
Augusta, Kentucky, located at the confluence of the Ohio River and Bracken Creek. The city offers and incredible long range view of the picturesque river valley, known to be one of the most stunning views of the valley in the state of Kentucky. Augusta was regarded as one of the most popular shipping ports during the agricultural growth era. Tobacco, hemp, livestock, and wine were frequently exported from Augusta to surrounding areas. Today, named the “Most picturesque town in Kentucky,” there’s plenty to keep you busy in this adorable little Kentucky city. Remember Rosemary Clooney? George Clooney’s aunt was an American singer and actress that was popular in the 1950s. She was a jazz vocalist with hit songs such as “Come On-a My House,” “Botch-a-Me,” “Mambo Italiano,” and “Tenderly.” Back in 1980, Rosemary bought a little yellow house in Augusta that she loved dearly, It is now open to the public.
Day 7 Sunday, August 20 Cincinnati, OH
If there was ever a city built upon a river, it is Cincinnati, amidst the gently rolling hills along the Ohio River, Cincinnati spreads from the southwestern corner of Ohio into Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. The city is located about mid-point on the shoreline of the 981-mile long Ohio River. Take a stroll through Cincinnati – the birthplace of baseball and its own distinctive chili recipe. Bound by the many parks; each district has its own personality, and you can meet them all – because the city’s compact downtown is anchored to the river. As the expansive riverfront continues its facelift known as The Banks, it’s apparent that Cincinnati’s next chapter in history will be just as successful as its past ones.
Day 8 Monday, August 21 Madison, IN
This quaint river town is sure to win your heart. Madison’s culture and heritage is weaved into nearly every stop, ensuring you a glimpse of the beauty and history of antique machinery at the Schroeder House, or an example of fine craftsmanship at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site, where the stunning Greek Revival architecture is sure to impress each of its visitors!
Day 9 Tuesday, August 22 Louisville, KY-Disembark
Enjoy a final breakfast onboard before disembarking in Louisville and beginning your Louisville Backstretch Tour – journey to the “backstretch” of the racetrack during a rail-side, meet and greet
with Churchill Downs equestrians! Explore the grounds and then listen to stories directly from a jockey, a trainer, a thoroughbred owner, and more!
