Day One, Wednesday, December 7, 2022

Day Two, Thursday, December 8, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at your leisure this morning, before meeting up with your GUIDE and Departing on a Drive by Embassy Row. After the Civil War, the powerful and socially elite built large mansions along Massachusetts Ave. After the Great Depression, many of the families who built these homes went broke. Today, the area is known as Embassy Row. Embassies, associations, foundations, and clubs have claimed and restored these lovely homes.

Arrive and tour the National Cathedral – the world’s sixth-largest Cathedral.  Taking over 83 years to construct, the National Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece.  It’s a thoroughly American interpretation of 14th Century English Gothic style.

Lunch on own at the Merriweather Café. After lunch enjoy the afternoon as you explore the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens completely transformed for the holidays.  Hillwood is the mansion of the former cereal heiress, Marjorie Merriweather Post.  A Very Merriweather Christmas draws inspiration from the new biography Marjorie Merriweather Post: The Life Behind the Luxury.

Next, arrive at the United States Botanic Garden Poinsettia Show, a living plant museum. Exhibits interpret the role of plants in supporting earth’s diverse and fragile ecosystems.  Established by Congress in 1820, the U.S. Botanic Garden is one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America.

Visit the Pathway to Peace and The National Christmas Tree, a large evergreen tree located in the northeast quadrant of The Ellipse near the White House. Each year since 1923, the tree is decorated for Christmas and lit by the President of the United States. This marks the start of a month-long festivities known as the Pageant of Peace. Smaller trees representing the U.S. states, District of Columbia, and the five territories around the National Christmas Tree are referred to as the Pathway to Peace.

Arrive for Dinner at Tony & Joe’s Seafood Place, then we depart for a special holiday Illuminated Monument Driving Tour.  Under a moonlit sky, experience the majestic views of our Nation’s renowned treasures. While Washington’s monuments and memorials are impressive during the day, they’re absolutely stunning at night!

Return to the hotel for a restful night’s sleep!

Day Three, Friday, December 9, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at your leisure this morning, then we depart for a visit to the President Woodrow Wilson House, a national historic landmark and house museum focusing on President Wilson’s “Washington Years”. The museum promotes a greater awareness of Wilson’s public life and ideals for future generations through guided tours, exhibits, and education programs.

Next, enjoy a one-of-a-kind Holiday happening at the Downtown Holiday Market, bringing a unique and festive shopping “village” to the heart of Downtown DC, the market features more than 150 regional artisans, crafters and boutique businesses of ethnically produced goods.  Hundreds of diverse gift items, such as jewelry, pottery, paintings, and textiles will be offered by 60 exhibitors. You’re sure to find something special for everyone on your list.  While you’re shopping, enjoy lively seasonal entertainment, plus great snacks and festive treats.

Take time to visit the National Portrait Gallery and see the Hall of Presidents (opens at 11am) Housed in the magnificent “Old Patent Office Building,” this museum features a unique collection of portraits of famous Americans from the worlds of politics, sports, literature and stage and screen. The Gallery includes the Hall of Presidents, which has several official portraits of United States Presidents.

Travel for lunch on own at The Point – a robust flavors of open flame cooking with the freshest seafood in the city. Perfectly situated at the confluence of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, our contemporary design, tranquil open-air patio and premium fire pits, compliment the picturesque and panoramic views.

Day Four, Saturday, December 10, 2022

Enjoy breakfast at leisure this morning and free time at the resort prior to checking out. Enjoy the amazing holiday displays throughout the resort, before we depart for Christmas at Mount Vernon as they joyfully deck the halls for Christmas. Enjoy themed decorations (including 12 Christmas trees), Special Mansion Tours: Tour the rarely open third floor of the Mansion and learn how the Washington’s Celebrated Christmas, and 18th-Century Entertainment: Costumed friends and family of the Washington teach dancing or tell stories about Christmas at Mount Vernon.

Next, depart for free time to shop in Old Town Alexandria.    Experience Old Town Alexandria, filled with classic charm on the Potomac waterfront.  Find shopping, dining, things to do, history and more.

  • Don’t miss the Torpedo Factory Art Center where you can visit the many Artist Studios for unusual, one-of-kind gifts.
