Saturday June 9, 2018 – Local Guided Tour

7:30 am           Enjoy a FULL BREAKFAST at your leisure at the hotel.

9:00 am           Meet your guide at the hotel and travel to your first stop today at the SUGAR HILL SAMPLER MUSEUM AND GIFT SHOP.  Owner Barbara Serafini’s ancestors were the first settlers of the village of Sugar Hill and built this stalwart barn as a vital part of their pioneer life. Hefty beams, pine board ceilings, and original flooring make for a truly different kind of gift shop, featuring the “useful and unusual.” Sample homemade products, explore the museum and photo gallery of area history and lore.

Take a WAGON RIDE THROUGH THE FIELDS OF LUPINES and experience something unique – “Paying homage to the annual blossoming of this captivating wildflower, the Fields of Lupine Blooming is a time honored regional event.  The brilliant spikes of the lupine flower carpet local fields and pastures in a rolling sea of vibrant purposes, pinks, blues and whites.  The long-lasting blossoms attract equally dazzling butterflies and create a breathtaking floral display against the majestic backdrop of the Franconia, Presidential, and Kinsman Mountain ranges.  Every visitor is sure to find abundant photo and recreational opportunities in the Northeast’s most spectacular mountain region.  Our local greenhouses and businesses will be offering lupine plants and seeds so you start your own field of lupine.”

1:30 pm           Following lunch (on own at a nearby restaurant) this afternoon, our guide takes us to visit the ROCKS ESTATE in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.  Here you will enjoy a presentation on GARDEN’S OF YESTERYEAR.   “Join us on a virtual tour, via slideshow program, of some of the finest summer estate gardens of the North Country, circa 1933. This show features hand-painted slides and a narrated reading of letters that portray not only the gardens, but also the social climate of that era. Following the slideshow, there will be an interpretive tour of the gardens.  And time for the GIFT SHOP where you can purchase gifts or enjoy a tea or coffee.

4:30 pm           CAFÉ LAFAYETTE DINNER TRAIN.  “Escape the ordinary and relive the romance of dining on the rails. Experience this while riding in one of three beautifully restored Pullman dining cars, enjoying five courses of fine food served to you in the Grand European manner. As dinner is served, period music keeps time with the rail’s rhythmic rumbling.  With magnificent mountain vistas and lush New England forests surrounding The Café Lafayette Dinner Train, you are assured of having the best seat in the house, all evening long. After dinner, with the compartment lights down low and the dramatic sunset outside your window, you may allow yourself a wistful romantic journey back in time, and you might wish the evening would never end.”
