Tour Itinerary

Day # 1 Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Welcome to Vacationland!  Making your way to Freeport Village for shopping and lunch on own in Freeport, Maine.  Freeport is home to the flagship L.L. Bean outdoor sporting goods store – and a myriad of outlet shops. Continue on your way to the mid-coast Maine region and Boothbay Harbor where you’ll enjoy welcome reception upon checking into the Boothbay Harbor Inn for two-night stay. The hotel is located on “the quiet side” of Boothbay, just a short stroll across a charming footbridge beside the hotel to the picturesque downtown Boothbay Harbor, known for its brick sidewalks and waterfront activities. Unique shops with handcrafted goods, jewelry, books, antiques and clothing are located along the waterfront, along with a variety of art galleries to explore. Souvenir Maine lobster hats will be provided for each passenger on arrival for added festivity. Dinner included tonight at the hotel. (Dinner).      *Note that some rooms may be on second floor, please advise if you are unable to do stairs.

Day # 2  Wednesday,  May 22, 2019

A full buffet breakfast is included this morning.  Enjoy a scenic Harbor cruise on Linnekin Bay. You’ll pass by beautiful vacation homes, lighthouses, small islands and out to see the seals on the ledges.  You’ll have free time today in Boothbay Harbor to explore the local galleries, boutiques and plenty of casual restaurants from which to choose for lunch on your own.  This afternoon, you’ll then take a guided tour of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. See the beautiful coastline along woodland paths and along the river bank.  Here the majestic Maine woods meet the rocky shore. The wetlands shore and the fern glens meet the moss and lichen covered ledges in a variety of special theme gardens such as the wildflower garden and children’s garden. Next, visit the Boothbay Railway Village which represents a turn-of-the-20th-century Maine village containing railroad memorabilia, antique cars and trucks and such restored buildings as a blacksmith shop, red schoolhouse and general store as well as the 1847 Boothbay town hall, Freeport railway station and Spruce Point chapel.  A ride on a narrow-gauge, coal-fired steam engine is included.  Return to the hotel to freshen up and Don your souvenir Maine Lobster hat for a traditional lobsterbake dinner this evening at the hotel.  You’ll feast on clam chowder, steamed mussels, steamed lobster, corn on the cob, red potatoes with blueberry cake for dessert. Chicken and steak are offered as alternate menus to lobster. (Breakfast & Lobster Dinner)

Day # 3 Thursday, May 23, 2019

A full breakfast buffet included this morning before you’ll tour the Maine Maritime Museum. Located on the banks of the Kennebec River, the museum depicts Maine’s shipbuilding industry from the 1600’s to the present. Numerous hands on exhibits, boat building demonstrations, a lobstering exhibit and a Victorian shipbuilder’s home are here for you to see on the grounds of an historic shipyard. Most of the shipyard’s original buildings, plus tools and equipment are on view. In the center of the yard, a full-scale metal sculpture of Wyoming’s bow and stern gives visitors a sense of the enormous size of the ship. A Victorian-era home of a shipbuilder and his family sits adjacent to the P&S Shipyard, and entry is included in Museum admission. It contains many of the family’s belongings and similar period pieces. This afternoon, you’ll head south to Kennebunkport where you’ll have free time for lunch on your own in Dock Square before you depart home with fond Maine memories!  (Breakfast)
